We opted to go to La Digue first, and end in Mahe. Usually, people would start in Mahe and end in La Digue, as the latter is more beautiful. Save the best for last. With our itinerary, La Digue would have more strenuous activities, so we decided to get it out of the way before relaxing in Mahe at the nicer resort.
Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie itself is adequate for what is the most luxurious accommodation on the island. The experience might've been better if we stayed in a higher level room. However, we chose the base room, knowing that we wouldn't be on the property much, which turned out to be the right decision. The resort itself was more crowded, and there aren't too many public spaces. We had to fight for a lounge chair. The food was passable. The service was good.
Overall though, Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie is, in its own way, special. I would recommend staying there if you're ever on the island. It doesn't have any competition, but it's doing a decent job.
Major complaint - the toilet works SOMETIMES!!! |

There was a soccer match special for drinks and hor d'oeurves. We went for the special price, didn't remember much about soccer. |
In Mahe, we stayed at the Hilton Northolme Resort and Spa. We upgraded to the Pool Villa, knowing we'd spend most of our time on the property. After staying at the Hilton, I don't understand why the property isn't considered aspirational in the travel community. It's a lovely resort, and the newly built pool villas are exceptional.
All in all, I feel very lucky that we were able to make this trip happen. It was a fun and memorable trip.
