Under the Tuscan Sun - Siena / San Gimignano / Pisa (Day 2)

Day 2: Siena / San Gimignano / Pisa

Day 2 consisted of touring Tuscany and its more famed surrounding cities. It was the coldest day being 28 degrees fahrenheit.

Siena: I like Siena. This city used to be a stopover for people walking from Paris to Rome, yes WALKING. The city is home to one of the oldest banks in Europe. The banking business boomed when travelers needed to exchange currency. They chose to travel through Siena instead of Florence. This was because Florence is next to the Arno River, and the river means mosquitoes, and mosquitoes carry malaria. At the time, people were really scared of malaria.

I did not know this but there is a rivalry between Florence and Siena, which started way back in the day.

Church

Another church - what I thought was the most beautiful church until Milan

Inside the church, there were black and white marbles. Very detailed.

A picture with something carved by one of my favorite TMNT - Michaelangelo. This was before his famed David.

Tuscany Farm: We later lunched at a farm in Tuscany where they showed us how the Italian wine taste. It's nothing different than how Americans wine taste. However, the wine region in Tuscany is completely breathtaking. It's such a shame that the sun's position made it difficult to capture a picture. I don't have a sophisticated enough camera.

San Gimignano: This small ancient town is known for saffron. We didn't get saffron, but got some pretty cool pictures! San G. is also known for award winning gelato, which was closed because it's winter and all.

We got gelato elsewhere....

but it wasn't good!

Pisa: Pisa has the leaning tower and that is it. It's pretty boring. However, this was my first time running into scammers! Another interesting thing to note is there were selfie sticks being sold on every corner! I should get myself one of those.

Tipping the tower of Pisa.
