Is quality in clothing gone forever?

It has been really difficult to find quality clothing out there.  We, as Americans, are a group of people who prefer things to be disposable.  The H&M, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters allow for this behavior.

Where can we find QUALITY clothing aside from the high end designers who stuck by their names, such as Ferragamo, and Bally's.  Even higher end lines are coming up with diffuse lines with lower quality goods (i.e. RedValentino, Vera Wang Lavender Label, Z spoke by Zac Posen), and then there are those who just down graded their quality altogether...Max Mara anyone?  The craftsmanship and material used on these newer items are just horrific.

There was a time when I purchased a Bebe skirt and it was 100% silk, with LINING.  My prom dress was a BCBG and it was a gorgeous silk on silk piece, with hand embroidery and sequins.  Nowadays, such a thing can not be found.  Why has polyester replaced silk? Where did all the lining for pants and skirts go?  What happened to bias cut?  Do hand embroidery and sequins no longer exist?  Is fashion...dead??
