Versaille Chateaux was impressive on the outside, and beautiful on the inside. First off, the line was LONG, so we were happy we got there a bit sooner than others (10 am). We should have left earlier but couldn't resist the breakfast buffet. Upon arrival, we did not know this, but there were four lines: (1) main line for the castle tour, the one we stood in, (2) King Louis XV headquarters, (3) Marie Antoinette's chambers, and (4) the garden, which wasn't really a line as you can walk right in and purchase tickets there.
Our two-day museum pass, purchased with the Hotel Concierge for 39 Euros, got us into the castle tour. We (mainly I) made a stupid mistake and ran right outside to the gardens for their 11 a.m. turn on of the fountain as soon as we got inside the castle!!!! The tickets to the garden was 7.50 Euros, and TOTALLY worth it. However, this resulted in us getting kicked out of line for the castle tour and we were made to wait in the long line AGAIN to get into the castle. We begged a very nice french man who worked at Versaille to let us skip waiting in line the second time. He was gracious about it, calling us "tourists".
The Battles Gallery - a very impressive room
Lunch at their cafe, where water costs more than wine!!!! 6.00 Euros for water bottle. Aside from that, the food was very expensive and mediocre
Croque Monsieur - 16.00 Euros
French Onion Soup - 13 Euros
Gardens of Versaille
There were about 28 difference attractions in the garden. I was so glad we walked through most of the gardens, and seriously glad I did not try to look less of a tourist, as most of Versaille visitors ARE tourists. The garden was like a maze!!!! It was divided into sections and at there is something to look at in the center of each section. This waterfall was one of them.
The band playing outside our hotel, in front of the Opera House. Free live concert music!!!
Me, enjoying the concert music from the balcony of our hotel.
That night, we ate at Le Mesturet. This local French Bistro was within' walking distance from our hotel, and oh so delicious. It was so good that I forgot to take pictures!!! The foie gras was 15.70 Euros, and it was REAL foie gras, not that pate or seared stuff. The wine was 4.50 Euros a glass, thus I had four glasses. Also one of the BEST pork tenderloin I've had in my life! At 68 Euros for a complete dinner for two that included 4 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees, we might be back before the our trip concludes.
