I'm one to have delayed reactions, and sometimes, very delayed reactions....In this case, four days before a story officially hit me. We heard this gruesome story on Saturday night while having dinner with some friends. It's about their neighbor's accountant.
After busy season, this accountant went to Vietnam to detox. He was murdered in Vietnam. When his body was found, his organs were removed! WTF!!!
This just hit too close to home. Bay area accountant murdered and organs were harvested in VIETNAM!
I told my coworkers this, and they didn't seem surprise. They said that in those countries, these crimes are aimed at western tourists because their organs are "clean". Also, they can get away with it because the corrupt government won't do anything about it, since the tourists aren't their citizen.
If you get kidnapped (and murdered) in those countries, you are SOL.
Now, it made me think twice about going to those underdeveloped countries. Thinking back on it, I was CRAZY to do have done a solo trip to Vietnam and Thailand! What was I thinking?!?!?!?
