Switzerland and Vienna - Logistics

I usually end my trip reports with one post dedicated to logistics.

This trip, we spent five nights in Switzerland and two in Vienna, making it a total of seven nights. Our flight routes were pretty complex and it's not one of my better bookings. But it got us there and back, with some agony in between.

Flights:

Getting there:
- SFO-IAH (United)
- overnight at Marriott Houston Airport
- IAH-MAN (Singapore Airlines)
- MAN-GVA (Easy Jet) - different itinerary

Getting back:
- ZRH-YYZ (Austrian Airways - I like this airline!)
- YYZ-SFO (Air Canada)

Our Hotels:

Royal Savoy Lausanne:
We stayed at this hotel for one night. Ideally, I would've liked two nights in Montreux, but due to flights (when you book on points, you can't be too picky), we had to reduce the time spent in the French side of Switzerland. Also the time we went, there was a Jazz Festival going on in Montreux, making the rooms super expensive.

Lausanne worked for us because it is well located. From Geneva airport, it was a direct train ride to Lausanne. And from the hotel, there is a direct train to the boat, which took us to Chillon Castle. My main goal was to get on that boat!

The room was okay. The pictures of this place makes it look way more amazing than it really is, but still a pretty nice hotel. My favorite aspect was the location and the HERMES toiletries! This is the closest I'll probably get to Hermes, complimentary toiletries....

Sunstar Alpine Wengen:
In Wengen, we stayed at the Sunstar Alpine Wengen. The location of the hotel is ideal. This is one of the nicer hotels in Wengen, and was recently renovated. The hotel was close to the train, grocery store COOP, the gondola to Mannlichen, and the town center. This was much appreciated after a long day of hiking!

The main problem for me was the height of the bathtub. It's higher than our US bathtubs. Without my glasses, my toes hit the side of the tub several times, a bit painful. Also the toiletries at the hotel was pretty horrific. I'm glad I took the Hermes from Royal Savoy Lausanne.

However, our room 311 was perfect for us. It is a corner balcony room with the BEST view of the alps (from this hotel, other hotels probably has better view). We had a full on view of the mountains Jungfrau, Eigner and Monch. The only room that might have a better view is 411, which was right above ours. The hotel only has four stories, so that's probably a better room. Overall, although not the Park Hyatt, this was a good, clean, and well located hotel. I recommend it.

I didn't take any pictures of the room because my spoiled Leo rising found it depressing.

Google Image of our room. It looks exactly like this minus the plants

Park Hyatt Vienna:
As a points enthusiast, we GOTTA have a point booking at some point. So, the Park Hyatt Vienna it was. I really like this hotel. It's in the heart of what I call my personal "boulevard of broken dreams", this means it's by some pretty swanky shops! Around the corner is a Chanel, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. One block from Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Moncler, Valentino, Gucci, etc. It's walking distance to so much bling (Cartier, Bulgari, Chopard, oh my!!!).

So much bling
