The Seychelles is an archipelago and country in the Indian ocean and is part of Africa. It was once a colony of France before it was a colony of Britain. Finally in the mid 1900s, it became independent.
We first became interested in the Seychelles after reading about it on many travel sites. It piqued our interest even more after discovering that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge honeymooned in the Seychelles at North Island (where a room costs around $5,000 a night). Other well known names who vacationed in the Seychelles included the Clooneys, Beckhams, and Jolie-Pitts. The final deciding factor was Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition had a photoshoot there in 2014. Of course, all the celebrities and photoshoots were on much more expensive private island resorts, which we did not stay at...but our trip was enjoyable and romantic nonetheless.
Okay, onto the trip. After hours of research, we decided to start our vacation at La Digue Island. It's a granite island where the famed beach "anse source d'argent" is located. This beach is supposedly the BEST BEACH IN THE WORLD or came close to it (according to cntraveller, cnn, travelchannel, etc.)
With that said, here are some pics of anse source d'argent from my iPhone, Wayne's iPhone, and my camera. For the record #nofilter

Another thing to note is we were at the beach at 9:00 am. It's worth it to stay on the island and visit the beaches before the rest of the day trippers arrive at 10:00 am. The feel is completely different when there are few people, and the beach is calm and pristine. We left around 10:15 am when it was starting to get crowded and overrun by day trippers.
Aside from commercial vehicles and wagons being pulled by oxens, the transportation means in La Digue are walking and biking. We chose to bike.
Our next stop was the beach "grand anse". Where anse source d'argent was picture perfect with the great granite boulders, the grand anse is a long, beautiful stretch. The waters that day were far from calm and many people, understandably, opted not to swim. I hopped in to jump the waves for a bit, and ran back out because the clouds threatened to downpour on us (which it eventually did).

Other than the beaches, Seychelles are known for nature and national parks. We didn't visit the national parks, or see any of the famed animals, except for the big tortoises. Here are some in the sanctuary and one in the wild. Guess which one is in the wild.
It's not everyday you see a turtle walking on the road. Ready, set, RACE! |
That night, we enjoyed a sundowner at our resort, Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie. That was our downfall. We seriously just knocked out after that (at 8:00 pm) due to jet lag. At least the sunset was beautiful.
It's interesting how we get a sunset every night, but it takes going on vacation for me to sit down and enjoy it.
Pretty cool sun rays in the distance |
